Jersey is a remake of the Telugu hit 'Jersey' which starred Nani in the lead role. Earlier during an Instagram live session, Shahid had said that Jersey's story, about a man who finds fame late in his life, resonated with him as he has also gone through his share of lows in his career.

"I watched Jersey before Kabir Singh. The time when I saw it, I was unhappy. I used to think where my career would go, what I will do next. So, I could relate to the story of Jersey, which is about late success. It's about a man who finds glory at a time when people retire," said Shahid.

Also previously, when Nani was asked if Shahid Kapoor will be able to play the part as well as he did, he told Pinkvilla, "Hundred percent. I think he will do it better. He is a brilliant performer and can really get into the skin of the character."
